De Cecco is name famous throughout the world for pasta, it is the third largest manufacturer and it’s from here in Abruzzo.
The company was founded in 1886 by the De Cecco brothers in the small town of Fara San Martino in the Abruzzo region of central Italy. Nicola De Cecco originally produced flour at his stone mill before establishing the pasta factory. In 1908, the company adopted a country girl with a wheat stacks as its trademark.
Fara San Martino (locally La Fàrë) is a town in the province of Chieti, situated on the outskirts of the Majella National Park, the town is known as ‘La casa della Pasta” (The Home of Pasta).
De Cecco makes over 300 different pasta’s, including Bio, Integrale, Senza Glutine and Uovo and each one has the perfect sauce to go with it.
Another pasta maker also from Fara San Martino is Giuseppe Cocco, the pasta is still an artisan product made using bronze dies and a long slow drying process. It is said that it is the favourite of the Pope. Sadly Giuseppe Cocco died recently on 18th November 2020 at the age of 92.
