Farindola has a population of around 1500 residents. It is within the Gran Sasso & Monti della Laga National Park and lies on one of the main entrance roads to the Campo Imperatore. Hiking, biking, horse riding and climbing activities are all available in the Park.
There are several traditional festivals throughout the year ( about 11!) which are mainly based on religious festivals, the dates of these events vary slightly each year. The festivals have a religious programme, involving masses and processions as well as civil celebrations.
During the second half of July up to the second half of August, the Farindola International Festival takes place. This is an international festival of art organised by FIAF, invites 10 visual artists from all over the world. The artists are hosted for free in the old town of Farindola. During their stay they take inspiration from the unpolluted nature of Farindola to create paintings, sculptures, drawings, photographs and more. The 10 artists of each edition are the protagonists of a story and of the daily routine of Farindola and discover the traditions, history and the story of the traditional products.
The first 2 weeks in August celebrate both the Pecorino cheese and Pecorino wine. During the festival the squares of the old town are transformed into open-air restaurants by the local restauranteurs with dishes which include pecorino cheese in their recipes. Apart from wandering musicians and dancers there are music concerts and parties are held late at night in the heart of the village.

The town is famous for its resistance against partisan soldiers after Mussolini was captured an hour away in Campo Imperatore. At 6:00 A. M., of October 30, 1944, 5,000 communist partisans ascended into the town from the nearby town of Vestea to subdue local pro-fascist movements. The ragtag group of fascists, outnumbered 3 to 1, led by the now deceased Amadeo Inzaghi, fought the communist on the Mount of Bertona. The fascists troops defeated the disorganized partisans. Although, the skirmish was insignificant in the history books and reported only by local pro fascist newspapers, the inhabitants of the town still retain the sense of pride from the battle.
The dish Abruzzo is known for throughout Italy is Arrosticini, this was created in Villa Celiera, the most famous butcher that creates them is Macelleria Ginestra, located on Via Pescara in the centre of town. These are hand cut and the Abruzzese travel miles to purchase them.

There are 3 butchers, post office, bar and 3 restaurants in the village.
Whether buying or selling, Abruzzohouses is working for you.
